love your space

i love the madness of my creative space…it keeps me sane.

These photos show a super easy method I use to make my own foam stamps. Craft stores sell sheets of fun foam in the childrens’ art section for about $1.00 per sheet. I draw my doodles on the fun foam and cut out with an Exacto knife. (This way I also have a stencil to use from the cutout). I then cut up a garden kneeling pad found in any home improvement store and glue the fun foam stamps onto the cut up pieces of the foam garden pads. Voila. My own designs on foam stamps, and very economical.

Oooh, I love your stamps! I do this too only I use these gigantic styrofoam sheets you can get at home depot as the mounting block for the foam stamp. I don’t know what they are for, maybe insulation, but you can find them with the drywall. Like I said, they are huge so I have to break them down to fit into the car, but they last forever and I just carve out the size I need for my stamp block. I’ve always thought that if you could get a really sharp knife to cut them, they’d make pretty cool “foam” stamps on their own and save you a step! xo, debra

    Thanks Debra!
Styrofoam is a great idea! I’ve tried using a wood burning tool on the garden kneeling pads, and this works really well, but one thing that concerns me about foam (and would concern me about styrofoam as well) is the chemicals in these foams, and burning them might not be the best idea for health reasons….breathing in that smoke. So I’ve stopped doing that, and am having fun just cutting the crayola fun foam and mounting those instead.
